Install and run Windows 7/windows 2008R2…Etc on a USB flash drive
I will explain in simple steps how to install and run windows from USB flash (not boot from USB), without the need to download large files “Windows Automated Installation Kit” or deal with complex process
Preparation:
1- USB Flash 16 GB and more recommended, USB 3.0, you still can use USB 2.0, but Boot will takes a very long time almost 2 hours
2- Download and extract files bellow from http://www.rmprepusb.com
Install_RMPrepUSB_Full_v2.1.723
NT6_Fast_Installer
GetWaikTools
3- Double-click “GetWaikTools” and download Waik Tools for Windows 8
Let’s start
1- from download Waik (appropriate folder x86 /amd64)
copy (imagex.exe, bcdboot.exe and bootsect.exe) to “…\NT6_Fast_Installer\” folder
2- Prepare USB
Double-click “install_RMPrepUSB_Full.exe” to install RMPrepUSB software, and it will create shortcut on your desktop
3- Double-click “RMPrepUSB” shortcut and select a USB flash, boot loader and file system
OK — >O.K and it will popup windows similar to windows below; the window will close by itself and that is means USB preparation completed.
3- Install window on USB,
Click “installer.cmd” and RunAS Administrator (from “NT6_Fast_installer” folder).
It will popup window like below, press enter, enter
Then select install.wmi form source installation DVD “DVD_drive:\sources\install.wmi”
Select the image you want to install from Available image list
Enter Target System Drive ie usb drive (example G: )
Press enter and follow screen instruction
Make sure to Enter C when you “choose a windows drive letter for the new installation”
Review the inputs and if it correct then press Enter to start installation
Reboot from USB after installation complete
